I noticed something about Coca-Cola's billboards lately, they are geared to sports enthusiasts, why is that? They (in my opinion) are odd ads to reach the public in regard to Coke. The Olympic ads were just missing something. To take the thought trying to be portrayed and connecting with the actual product. I understand they were a supporter of the Olympic's but that is no reason to cause me to go out and consume Coca-Cola products. Now, billboard advertisements for Sprite connected with a basketball player???
You are not reaching the Sprite fans that do not connect with sports, both male and female alike. Now, what I do love as a marketing tool-whenever you call a Coca-Cola facility and you are put on hold I just love the testimonials of people that share their fond memory of Coke. That reminds the listeners to think back to a favorite memory of their own connected with Coke. Even better yet, to chuckle while on hold because you can relate to the testimonial you are listening to. You almost don't want someone to pick up the phone so you could continue to listen to their great testimonials. Another thought on billboards, I noticed an electronic billboard today that obviously should have possibly been changed today, being 11/1/12, the day after Halloween. The ad was geared for Halloween I wonder if the customer is even aware that this billboard sign is still reflecting a Halloween theme for a product of theirs.
Do you have time for one more billboard sign, this one may bring a chuckle to you. There is a very serious advertisement it may be in reference to insurance. Part of the advertisement is a man (in a suit) standing at a desk with a serious message on the billboard. They did not just make it an oblong standard billboard sign. This sign actually has carved out the man's head. One day I was driving and noticed something on top of the man's head (I think the man may also have the appearance of being bald or a shaved haircut.) When I got closer I realized a bird was using the man's head as their perch. I really did laugh at that. Here's a serious advertisement and now there is a bird perched right on the top of the man's head. I would guess sign creators may need to think about the logistics when creating a billboard. I am sure they never even thought that a bird would find this to be a great perch for them. You can't help but chuckle or bring a smile to your face when you see a bird perched on this man's head, it sort of distracts from the message. Now, when I am heading in that direction I don't look to read the advertisement I now look to see if a bird is on top of the sign.
What about this idea. Take the same concept but instead of cutting out the head from the billboard why not have an ad with the person wearing a baseball cap. Built outward almost like a ledge the visor portion of the cap with the intent that a bird or two could perch on the visor portion of the hat. Incorporate nature into your advertisement and they will work for you free, to be an interactive part of the advertisement. You build it and they will fly to it.
I hope I brought a smile to your face today. See, even a drive on the highway can cause one to think and be creative. When you drive enjoy the scenery. I called a company once and inquired about what I read on their billboard. When I called they answered the phone while I was right in front of the sign and I actually read the billboard to them. I wanted to know if my recent purchase qualified the sign ad $100.00 off on a purchase of four tires. They referred me to another person and when I spoke with them they actually had to have someone take a picture of the sign and send it to them. I did not qualify for the discount since my purchase was under warranty, I ended up with a better value than if I would have purchased with the $100.00 off.
People do read billboards. I still would like to get to a Lexus dealership to test drive the new hybrid car they advertise on billboards. Now, that is a good ad which provokes me to go scout out a vehicle just because of the advertisement. Not in the market to purchase one but curious enough to try one. If I like it I will sing praises of it on my blog. Maybe you are in the market for a new car and I will do the test driving (so to speak) for you. Until we meet again, Peace in your heart. I heard a person speak it like this, "Shalom, Peace be still."
