I have been observing hummingbirds for many years now. Today I saw something for the very first time. May I share with you. This was highly unusual after observing hummingbirds for years now. I saw 2 of them like dancing together, a ruby throated one and one without the ruby marking. Then they drank @ the same time from the nectar feeder. Highly unusual since I mainly see them nose diving @ the other to claim territory over the nectar feeder. So, with further research, apparently this is part of courtship & mating to them.
I wonder why after all these years I was able to see this on this very day in my life 8/30/2023 VERY INTERESTING, VERY INTERESTING INDEED.
A 3rd one came to intrude on the mating dance & it was chased away. You know I am seeing the hummingbirds don't even have a care in the world as others look on to them in their courtship/mating ritual - for all to see that can see & they are not ashamed or hide their affection for each other. I wonder just if there will be baby chicks to be born within the next few weeks if they both chose each other to then procreate baby chicks?
Nature sure does fascinate me when I catch a glimpse of something so endearing as this. I do believe the male hummingbird pursues the female & I think the female still has a choice in this matter. Isn't it supposed to be that way in the lives of humans also. Meaning the male pursues the female as their mate in marriage. There I go thinking out loud again.
