This past week I received an email from one of my cousins. An email that caused my curiosity to be sparked. She wanted my address because she was going to send me an item that my daughter, Katie made for her father, lovingly referred to as Uncle Bill. I had to think back because I just could not imagine what the item was. There was no mention in the email of what it was, just that she thought I would like it. My daughter is 36 years old presently, so I was guessing it was something she made when she was a child. My uncle is deceased, and I am guessing she was going through some of his things and found this. My sister said it must have touched my uncle that he kept it all of these years. Imagine that!
The package came in the mail, and I opened it up to find this pillowcase in which she drew pictures on it. I examined it closer, and it looked like some sort of pillowcase in which you would do some type of embroidery or sewing design with little patterns outlined here and there. She drew pictures on this, and it was apparently for Easter. It sure did touch my heart to see my little Katie did this and it remained in my uncle's possession for years. So sweet, do you agree.
Perfect timing to be receiving this because I will bring it to her when I make the journey back home to Ohio for a visit. It is good to go home and be with both of my children. My son is also coming to Ohio during this time. Oh my gosh, I guess we are going to go to all the familiar places we enjoyed throughout the years we lived there. Let's see, Corky & Lenny's Jewish Deli. I know Nashville has Noshville Deli but it is not quite like a Jewish deli I am used to, just no comparison. Gee, it is so close in distance to my alma mater, John Carroll University that I have to drive through the campus for old times' sake. Then I want to stop at the Lourdes Shrine sometime because it was a place of retreat for us during the hard times in the marriage. The nuns were so kind to me. They showed me how to pray for the children at the Catholic school that had some fear. I followed their instructions they gave to me.
Christopher wants to go to Dubrovnik Gardens restaurant, a Croatian restaurant. I have to stop at R & D Sausage for the good stuff, kielbasa and they also make smoked dried sausages too. He packs them so I can travel with them. My family growing up used to purchase and eat their rice sausage and blood sausage too. Endearing ethnic comfort food until I figured out what was in the blood sausage. I remember the best way to prepare those particular sausages was in a cast iron pan in the oven. You flipped them over halfway and the outer part of the sausage had a wonderful crispness to it. Maybe I will get some for when my mom and sister come for a short visit with me in May.
Then we have to go to Little Italy to Presti's pizza/bakery. Then Kuhar's to-go restaurant for Slovenian type. I guess there will be not much cooking for me to do on this visit. Off to Vermilion to visit my spiritual mom and view the eagles and go sit by the beach I used to write by. I do plan on going to church @ CNC where I used to attend and truly did receive much bible training in the word of God. I was trained in Evangelism Explosion and deliverance ministry. I also sang in the choir there, I was an alto. I wonder if the kind usher, Hanz is still serving there. He would always get me a good seat when he seated me. Do you think I can play the rain stick there? Now silly, I know enough to ask and get permission before playing it there.
I have been intrigued with the Bob Jones Gulliver prophecy lately and will probably stop in Cincinnati and Columbus on the way either there or back home. I will be in Cleveland. So, I have had some connection in my lifetime with 5 of the cities mentioned in this prophecy: Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Atlanta & Nashville. Do you think I have to pay attention to this prophecy?
My dear sweet Katie has a bunny on the pillowcase. She currently has 2 bunnies as her pets. This is kind of funny. I have to see if I still have plastic Easter eggs to put bunny treats in. She said if they can smell the treat inside the eggs, they will figure out a way to open the eggs to get to the treat. Imagine that the grown kids don't want to have an Easter egg hunt with money in the eggs, but I guess the bunnies do. So much planning for me to do. As a mom I love doing this.
I got an idea, when my mom & sister come for a visit, I just have to make a grandma family favorite cake for them to enjoy. Graham Cracker Nut cake with orange buttercream frosting. I know without even asking them about it they will like my selection. As we enjoy the cake it will be like grandma is sitting with us at least in spirit as her recipe lives on amongst us. How sweet, how sweet, indeed how sweet. I hope you enjoy my daughter's little piece of artwork; it sure does warm my heart.
One more stop in Ohio. I have to see if I can connect with my dear college friend, Marybeth. We go back many years and when we get together on the phone or in person we sure do laugh a lot. Now, that's friendship do you agree.
I would be remiss if I didn't include making time to visit with my former mother-in-law, I love her.
