Happy early Autumn, in the USA we will celebrate it September 22, 2012. Autumn is by far my favorite season and I can actually start to smell the fragrance of Fall in the air even though it may still be the end of Summer on certain days. I do not know, there is just something about the smell of Fall in the air, I cannot pin point it there is a certain smell that when you breathe it in you just know that it is that.
Where I live I am starting to see a few trees start to get the seasonal change in color on the leaves. I am not too far away from a drive in which I would be able to see the splendor of all the leave changes by getting in the car and taking a drive to take in this magnificent sight. It is all about timing and getting the right day to go and explore what Autumn has waiting for me. How about you? Are you excited about Fall and the season change? You do know that the harvest also coincides with Autumn right. There is just something spectacular about taking a bite into a locally harvested apple that you can hear the crisp sound of that apple as you bite into it. I already made a batch of homemade applesauce. The secret to my applesauce, as the apples are cooking on the stove you take a handful or so of the cinnamon heart candies (you know the kind that are popular around Valentine's Day) and add them to the sauce while it is cooking on the stove and they actually melt and add a beautiful reddish color to the applesauce and then the cinnamon flavor is then released into it. The liquid I like to use when I start out making the sauce is apple cider but if there is none available I will then use a bit of orange juice so the apples do not burn in the pan they need a bit of liquid with them while they cook and begin to break down and soften. I also like to add freshly ground cinnamon too. The way I make applesauce you would like it because it is like eating apple pie without the crust and if you serve it warm it is delicious over freshly made homemade frozen vanilla custard. In the Summer when I make applesauce it is most delicious if you add fresh rhubarb to it.
I have had the occasion of more than once of sitting in traffic on main highways were massive amounts of people need to connect to get to their destination. What happens is everyone needs to get connected and at times you sit or creep along slowly to get to that connector or destination. Forget about it if there happens to be an accident that really slows down the traffic flow even more. While sitting in this traffic my mind begins to think of ways to alleviate this traffic mess. Remember, I am a Mom and I also like to solve problems too. So I began to think like a Mom solving a problem and this is what I came up with. Some may like this idea and others may just hate it but I am not afraid to share my ideas with you for someone may read this and use this as a spring board to come up with a solution.
During peak rush hour times in the morning and the afternoon I propose that all 53 foot and larger and 18 wheel trucks are not to be on the highways in major metropolitan areas to alleviate the traffic tie up. I believe the 6 wheel trucks and smaller are fine. I have observed them and they do not take up that much space. While sitting in my car I look and observe and to me it looks like those huge trucks seem to be taking up the space of 2, possibly 3 car lengths. Imagine if that truck space was now allowed to let cars flow in traffic to get to where they need to be. Most people are travelling to work or school in the morning and then heading home in the evening or some may be heading to school or work in the evening also. My point being, if all the huge trucks were not allowed on the main highways during peak rush hour times that would be posted then the flow of traffic would do just that it would flow with hardly any bottlenecks. Now, if one of those huge trucks wanted to participate during times when it is posted to not they would have to pay a hefty fee to grant them that opportunity or if they just did not want to follow the posted times then a hefty fine should be given to them to be paid. I am not saying keep huge trucks off of highways I am just suggesting that times be regulated to allow main traffic to run smoothly and then they are allowed to get back on the highways after the posted times.
These are just the observations of one that has had the distinct pleasure of sitting in this traffic and the answer is not paying road taxes to widen roads or add more connectors just to deal with what is already there and make it work. Maybe the times when trucks that are huge should be off of the highways that could be their rest times, I do not have all the answers I am just sharing my thoughts on how to alleviate bad rush hour traffic problems. Another option is to only allow these huge trucks to drive in one designated lane and that is it during these peak times. If you have any ideas out there I would love to hear about them.
