I like to keep up with things on the market that people are talking about. Months ago the electric pressure cooker caught my attention. I am very frugal and will not pay what they are asking for the price of one. So, I research and continue to search for one at a good price point. Bingo, I found one. There is a store that purchases buyouts and overflow of other stores. I was at the right place at the right time and I purchased one. The one I purchased is a slow cooker, rice cooker and electric pressure cooker all in one. I am not one to deal with the method of slow cooking. It is great in theory but not practical for my personality. I have not used the rice cooker method yet. You must know that I am a skeptic at first until I use the product and convince myself it really does work and it works well too. I keep thinking of different things to cook in it, each time I am pleasantly surprised.
I attempted as my very first try to make a pot roast. It was delicious. I think I am amazed each time the dish is done and how it really does infuse the flavor while cooking. I like the feature that mine has a browning function. You can do everything in one pot. Pot roast, the meat was tender in 45 minutes and then I added potatoes, carrots and celery for another 13 minutes and it was done. I did make a gravy out the the liquid that the meal cooked in, I was able to make that in the same pot too. What I did was turn on the browning feature and made it that way once I took the meat, etc out of the pot. After I made the gravy I then added the other items back into the pot. I thought to myself OK this just may . I then branched out and tried making a whole chicken. The meat actually falls off the bones. I tried that twice. I was then onto my next trial, pulled pork. I search for recipes as a guide and then I adjust. I have a great dry rub for pulled pork so I used that and then I browned all sides of the meat first. I also made homemade BBQ sauce to add at the end of the cooking time. I used a bone in piece of meat so I think it took a little longer to cook than if it was boneless. I removed the meat and shredded it with a fork and set it aside. The recipe called for one to reserve 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid and I disposed of the rest. You then take the cooking liquid reserve and the BBQ sauce along with the shredded meat and then cook it on low pressure for only a few minutes. It was delicious, it truly was. I was curious for I always hear that mashed potatoes are suppose to be wonderful when cooked in a pressure cooker. Well, that is true. I placed the potatoes with the water and a little bit of salt in the pressure cooker. I also added a chopped clove of garlic. Once the potatoes are cooked and you drain the water you then continue to mash them and season with butter and milk and they are done. Remember I told you I am a skeptic until proven to be true? Well, this convinced me. To actually taste the flavor of the potato and not have to doctor up the flavor of mashed potatoes because all the flavor is boiled out of them impressed me. From what I understand, making cheesecakes are suppose to be wonderful when made using the pressure cooker. I am frugal and do not want to pay a lot of money for a cook book for electric pressure cooker recipes. May I suggest there is a plethora of recipes when you search for them via the internet.
