As I walked today I was inspired to search out a few pictures from my trip to Yugoslavia/Rome. As I walked I was reminded of how I sat in a piazza on a bench one afternoon in Rome just fascinated with people coming and going from a shop that catered to people getting married and in search of a dress. Now may I remind you, I was on this trip because my Dad sent me thinking I would come home and not go through with my divorce. The opposite happened. It was so refreshing just to sit and people watch that day. I also enjoyed shopping for silk neckties that was fun. I fell in love with the pizza that they make in Italy also. Never experienced pizza like that since being there. I had two occasions to try it, the first time was while in the Rome airport waiting to get a connection flight to Yugoslavia. The second time was when our tour went to go see the catacombs and I just did not care to see that so I stayed on the tour bus and there was a pizza vendor right there.
I am going to show you two pictures that reference the Italian portion of my trip(the couple I met on the flight to Rome; me at the famous landmark from the movie, Roman Holiday) along with a picture of the family that housed us in Yugoslavia. I keep saying Yugoslavia because that is exactly what it was back when I went there on this trip. I also feel inspired to show you a picture from the Bahamas. Remember when I wrote about a pear shaped, blue topaz ring purchased because the color blue reminded me of the water where the cruise ships docked? I have a picture of that water. In my search today I found an excerpt of what I wrote while waiting in the Rome airport. I am so thankful that I wrote because it allows me to experience it again how many years later. It is a good thing to write for when you least expect it you find yourself getting blessed 11 years later.
"Our day of just sitting and waiting in the Rome airport-what an experience-I'll write of it in detail later on. I befriended a lovely lady from Italy on the plane-even though we did not speak each others language we communicated. The flight attendant took our picture-we exchanged holy cards-I gave her the Holy Spirit-she gave me one on Padre Pio-I need to get it translated. I met Laura from the Regina Group for we did a lot of laughing today with our silly errors we made while waiting to check in our luggage with Croatian Airlines. We met a beautiful couple from Dublin, Ireland. Rome time 2:30 PM Our time 8:30 AM. As she left I gave her a Holy Spirit card-we talked about the children that are orphaned-she and her husband were pharmacists and can get Estee Lauder at a decent price through their business." I will continue on with another excerpt of what I wrote when I returned to the Rome airport to travel back home. I will also share a prayer that was given to me by a lady on the return flight, in which I copied it down. I thoroughly enjoyed my flights to and from Rome on Alitalia Airline.
" I am sitting at the airport waiting to board the plane for home and a beautiful woman recognized my V sweatshirt and we struck up a conversation. She is most spiritual like myself (you did tell me that I would meet someone on this trip from that area-just by wearing the sweatshirt.) You placed her in my life to speak with me and to give me comfort for I know that there will be much sorrow and pain awaiting me at home. You sent me on this journey as a rest before the storm, thank you-I prayed-I became enlightened-I feel" It just ended and I could not find the conclusion of what I wrote. Here is the prayer that I copied down:
"PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY GHOST"
"Oh Lord Jesus Christ who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Ghost to finish your work in the souls of your apostles and disciples deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that he may perfect in my soul the work of your grace and your love. Grant me the spirit of wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal. The spirit of understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of your divine truth. The spirit of counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven. The spirit of fortitude that I may bear my cross with you and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation. The spirit of knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the saints. The spirit of piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable. The spirit of fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way displease him. Mark me dear Lord with the sign of your true disciples and animate me in all things with your spirit. Amen."
Just a reminder, I am still Catholic at this point in my life; became born again but did not know it until I started to attend a church later on that explained what salvation was to me. I went on this trip in November, 1994 and when I looked back in my journals I guesstimated I became born again the last weekend in October, 1994. I began to pray in tongues January, 1996. God is awesome isn't He?
