| You would never know it by the portrait pose but it was cold and windy that day. | <>>>
Thirty years ago I walked down the aisle and we were pronounced husband and wife. It truly was a fairy tale type of wedding reception. Approximately 100 guests arrived at the reception at a set time that was scheduled earlier to enjoy a sit down meal. Then the rest of the guests arrived a bit later and enjoyed a beautiful buffet. The sit down meal included shrimp cocktail and prime rib also. I believe cherries jubilee was served also. The first group of guests were also invited to partake in the buffet if they so chose to. We had a live Croatian band that came from Pittsburgh, PA and many people enjoyed themselves immensely. I can say this as a fact because those were the comments that were shared with us.
If you have read any of my blogs you would know by now that I am a "detail oriented" person by nature. When it came to my wedding I was not wrapped up in the menu, I think my mother chose that. I was concerned with a few things that were important to me. The wedding ceremony/mass; I wanted unique flowers for our wedding since I just love Fall it had to be reflected in the flowers; if my memory serves me correctly we had a banana nut wedding cake. I was not only concerned about the quality of the cake itself I also wanted a unique looking cake too. I am all about setting a mood or atmosphere so my cake had candles that they lit just before we did the cake cutting ceremony. One more important thing, I wanted to get a picture of my wedding veil from behind. Why that? I just liked it and so many photographers seem to focus on the front of a wedding dress that they forget the beauty of the veil too. One more detail was that we followed through with a custom known as the "Unveiling." You may ask yourself what is that? Simple, the couple sits together and a certain song is played as the maid of honor takes off the wedding veil of the bride and a red rose is placed in her hair and the groom's boutonniere is removed and replaced with a red rose. Now, this is suppose to be a serious type of ceremony/custom but I do remember that was not the case. Everyone in the wedding party was having a good time so there were no tears, just smiles. Our bridal party consisted of 5 groomsmen and 5 bridesmaids along with a ring bearer. The only thing missing was a flower girl or two because there just were no little girls of that age in the family.
Now, if I were to get married, there are young ladies in the family that would make simply beautiful flower girls possibly junior bridesmaids and there would be a very cute young ring bearer too.
As you know I like to back up my stories with portraits/pictures and today would be no exception to that. May you enjoy a piece of my former wedding day with a peek into the past.
You may wonder why I do not show pictures of the bride and groom. I feel that the privacy of my former husband should be honored.
