Shhhh, Can You Keep a Secret? I'm ...

Well, my mom is turning 92 years old shortly. What do you get a woman who is this age for a birthday gift. After many years of getting birthday gifts for her you tend to get innovative. What do you think? My mom loves sitting on the screened porch with the ceiling fan on (but not on days when it is too humid/hot) or even watching the birds from the dining room area while she reads her books. She is an avid reader and she loves when I get her from the Christian book store the Amish type of novels. I have been getting them for her for years now. So much so that I ask the person at the register to check and see if I already bough that one before as I am checking out. This is a great concept, they will buy back books. So when my mom has a good amount of books she read they come back to me. I then take them to that particular store and they let you know in a few days the amount you can get back or apply it as a credit. I opt for the credit because I then apply it to purchases of more Amish books for her. Before I take them back I offer them to my friends mom (who will be turning 90 years old shortly) to read first. I have some in which I need to go to the store and submit for buy back. It does not end up being lots of money and that is perfectly fine because it is still a credit I can apply to future purchases.

This year I will still get a few Amish novels but I am also going in a different reading direction. She loves watching the birds so I came across in the PBS catalogue a thick book that writes about a variety of birds throughout the world. Not only does it give descriptions, there is an audio built within the book. You enter the number that coordinates with that particular bird and you can then hear their song they sing. Isn't that innovative? Hope she likes it. I recently ordered a collective coin as a gift. They sent a catalogue and I found another, gift just for her. This is more sentimental value than actual monetary value. As long as I can remember Nana would so many times tuck in a $2.00 bill in cards or just give to the grandkids. I sort of picked up that little tradition. They are not as easy to find to purchase now-a- days, so I tend to get some when they have them at the bank to purchase. This particular $2.00 bill I ordered has imprinted on the front fire works .My mom loves to watch the patriotic 4th of July fireworks programs PBS shows. Memorial Day, etc. that PBS shows. So, the starter of gift giving $2.00 bills and lover of Patriotic USA is now combined in 1 gift for her. Do you think she will like it?

Another interesting thought about the hummingbirds by her and by me. I shared with her how when I hear the noise they make sometimes I look up in the sky and it is as if they are dancing for me. They then dive down to the feeder to partake in sweet nectar. The same thing she noticed happens by her. Isn't that interesting, not just hummingbirds drinking the nectar but putting on a beautiful display for our eyes to see. Such a blessing, do you have ears to hear and then eyes to see the blessings all around you?
