This blog entry is simple, sweet and short also. Yesterday marked my 7th anniversary working at my marketplace ministry job. I was speaking with my son the other day and we did both agree on one thing in reference to this job. We both knew that I do not work this job to make a huge sum of money. When I do my taxes each year it even looks like it does not even make a dent in my income. I work this job because it gets me out and about to mingle and interact with people. It makes me feel like I have a purpose on Sunday mornings all pointing towards this job. I love to bless people and make them feel like they are at home and that is what I strive to do each time I enter this location.
Do you feel the same way with the job that you go to either on a full time basis or a part time basis. All I know is as I approach the doors to this establishment it is as though a light goes off inside of me and I then shine for Jesus. Do you know how, by blessing people. Not just guest bur also blessing those I have the distinct pleasure of working with. We all bless the guests with kindness, knowledge and incredible customer service/care. Like I said, it is not a huge money maker for me but it is a huge opportunity for Jesus' love to touch the lives of people that enter this establishment.
This is also important too. When I was laid off years ago it was this very company that bumped up my hours of working to help me out. I am most grateful and it allowed me to work in areas that I normally do not work in for that period of time. I was able to work on the days that inventory came in and had to be accounted for and placed in its proper place in the stock room. Way back then what we did was not only check in the inventory but for each theme we would pull out the items needed for that particular display that would be set up on the gift shop selling floor. So it would be ready for those that worked the floor set changes. I was also blessed to actually work on floor set changes. You have to be able to follow the floor set/display set up instructions. That always fascinated me that you build the display from the inside outward. I was also able to do an apparel set change too. I actually took a picture of what I accomplished because I actually did it. I followed the instructions for that display and sometimes you do not always have the full amount of items needed to implement the set display. That is when you learn to improvise. This is my story that I share with you. A story written with a great big heart filled with gratitude and thanksgiving.
