It worked out best for me going to the late afternoon showing of "Little Women." When purchased the ticket for a later time I was able to come home and multi-task. I know you may be thinking to yourself why on Christmas Day. Why not is my response. I came home and did a bit of light cleaning and I decided to make some homemade chicken noodle soup in my electric pressure cooker.
It wasn't quite done when I left to go to the movie but that is ok because there is a feature on the pressure cooker that when it is finished cooking it goes into a holding mode. Keeps it warm but does not continue cooking. It was nice coming home to homemade soup. I already cooked noodles in the afternoon and placed them in the refrigerator for later use. I have learned by trial and error to cook the noodles but keep them separate from the soup broth until you actually eat the soup. If you put the noodles into the broth they then tend to absorb some of the broth and it is like the noodles expand. It is much easier to place some noodles in the bowl and then ladle the broth over them. I made this batch with lots of carrots in it.
I truly enjoyed driving through town today without the crazy traffic we have on a daily basis. With many places being closed for Christmas the traffic just was not out and about today. What a nice treat to not have to contend with traffic. So I come home and then I discard the cooked celery and tomato used in making the broth. I like to place whole carrots in the soup and then cut them into slices once they are cooked, so I sliced the carrots and placed them in the broth. I then take the chicken breasts out of the broth and they are so fork tender when you cook soup in the electric pressure cooker. Too tender actually, like fall off of the bone tender. I had to scoop out the pieces of chicken and discard the chicken bones. I then shred the chicken meat and will use that to make chicken salad. I also strain the broth to make sure I do not have things like pieces of the chicken bone etc. in the broth.
I get home and then enjoy a program on PBS, "Call the Midwife" I think that is the title. It was Christmas themed that was not a repeat also. I received two phone calls while in the movie and checked my voicemail messages after the show. I like to keep my phone silenced so as to not disturb others. I then received a lovely phone call from my children and we talked a good bit this evening. I just love when my children are able to spend time together and that is what they were doing this evening. My son is staying at his sisters tonight. It was only mere days ago that I was there staying with her at her apartment. Now it is his turn. Hearing my children's voices brings a song of joy to my heart. I love when they are on speaker phone so I can talk with them both at the same time. This mom is a very content mom filled with love and joy.
I thought the movie was good. I think I only got little tears in my eyes 2-3 times. I encourage you to go and see this movie. I kept hearing the word "opulent" several times while I was watching this movie. Maybe Holy Spirit wanted me to not forget to write about opulence in one scene of the movie. It was opulent when one of the sister's, Meg, was invited to an elegant party. To me it would be like a debutante ball/formal event. I loved the pink colored dress she wore and of course, she had on a beautiful pink ribbon choker type of necklace. I thought to myself I think I might have a similar style choker I wear on occasion. When people dress up in formal attire there is that elegant feeling in the air. How can you not feel good about yourself when you are dressed for elegance. I wrote about this years ago in on of my journals that I think married couples should dress up in formal attire at least once a year. It is good for your soul and it causes you to have an extra spring in your step so to speak. My father actually had his own tuxedo at one point in his life. Hey you just never know when you are going to get that phone call to be invited somewhere and it is required dress, a tuxedo occasion.
