Did you wake up today? If you did it is another day for you to rejoice in and be glad that you have another day to live your life. There are others that may be on the verge of taking their last breath and may not see another tomorrow. Imagine taking that for granted. You think to yourself silently oh just another day to get up and go to work and then go and do it all over again. If you knew you only had today to live would you have that same attitude? I bet you would not and you would make the most of that very day.
Sometimes the regular mundane chores we do throughout the day may cause us to not see the joy in doing them. For example, going to the grocery store...you have a list and you begin to gather your items and you see an elderly person trying to struggle to reach for an item. Do not let that opportunity to help them pass you by because of your busy schedule. It will only take a moment of your time to act kindly toward them. Remember, you will be elderly one day and you would appreciate the kindness of another helping you out right? I hope your answer to that is that you would appreciate it.
It only takes a few minutes more if you allow someone to go ahead of you in line at the store also. As I shop, sometimes I remember the days when my children were young and they were with me at the store. Sometimes I chuckle to myself (now) when I see a child trying to sneak into the grocery cart a snack or candy they like. Or the never ending response of "Why can't I get that now?" when being told they cannot get that item today. At the time when my children were young it seemed like the never ending chore of going to the store with them. Now, they are grown up and I find myself wishing they were with me when I went to the store because they grew up in the twinkle of an eye it seems to be. They are little one day and you find yourself cleaning up finger prints off of the windows and the next turn it seems like they are all grown up.
As parents were learn things a bit late to put into practice while they are still young. I guess that is so we can then enjoy children again if God blesses your children with children and then you can put your new practices into effect with the grandchildren or even great grandchildren one day. Now, looking back, was it really that important that when I vacuumed the carpeting that the pretty vacuum patterns I would make were discombobulated with the foot prints of children? Thinking to yourself I made the carpet look so nice and in a matter of time it no longer had that look. That is really not so important in the window of space we have our children living with us when they are young is it? It is when one gets older and wiser they begin to contemplate on things like that, what they know now and discovered to be real value and only had the insight back then. Wow, I guess we all go through that from one extent to another.
It is important to clean the house, cook dinner and get all the chores completed. Take time out to enjoy the day. The finger prints on the windows will be there tomorrow and may have a few more added to the window by then, that is OK. Let it go to spend that moment in time sharing a story or reading a book or going to the park. Capture the moments in time God gives to you now so you will not regret being too busy while the children are young looking back on how you would have changed it.
I make mention of something so simple as spending time with grandchildren one day or even great grandchildren. Did you stop to think that there may be someone out there that never had children and wanted children and prayed that they had them? See what I am saying? What we may take for granted may be a heart felt prayer cried out to God. Enjoy your day and look for those golden opportunities to shed a little kindness on others throughout your day. You may think to yourself why me? my question back to you is why not?
