I propose this question to you today because things like this really happen to real people. This is not some fabricated story but it actually did happen to me yesterday and it just may happen to you some day. What will you do when you are confronted with this? You hear about stories like this and when it actually happens to you, you have the opportunity to bless another and help them out.
I was walking yesterday and as I was heading towards home I was looking at the ground as I walked. I tend to do this when walking to see where I am walking so as to not trip or stumble on a stone or rock or anything that would obstruct my path. I saw something on the ground and as I looked it was a wallet. The very first thing you do when picking up something from the ground that is not yours is to ask Jesus to cover it with the blood of Jesus and then state that there will be no transference of any spirits of any sort or any kind. That is using wisdom because you do not know who handled that object or where it has been. You could never use enough precaution when it comes to handling objects where you do not know where they were or have been. This includes objects like picking up a penny or nickle or dime or quarter from the ground. Think about this, money transfers into the hands of many people in the life span of that coin.
After this brief prayer something caught my attention without even looking further in the wallet I saw the words student ID. It was not the kind of wallet that folds it was an open sort of wallet if that makes sense. Right then my heart went out to this person because I know the feeling if one of my children lost their wallet. They would backtrack in their mind their steps or where they went and where they possibly lost that wallet. I would hope that if this happened to one of my children someone would pick it up and return it to the owner. I remember once when one of my children had some money in their book bag (I do not recall the actual object they had their money in) and laid it down when we were at a shoe store and someone stole the money from it. It was the worst feeling I felt for my child. You knew we would never see that money again. It was a hard lesson to learn by losing the money. Even at that it does not make it any easier to swallow the thought that someone took something that belonged to you. My heart went out to this child. It truly did. To have something and then to not have it.
I did not want this young adult to have to fret and worry about losing their wallet. I walked back home and was thinking to myself what do I do now. Do I take it to the police station or call the courtesy officer where we live. It was suggested to look at the license which was the first thing on top and then if they lived in our complex take it to them. I did just that. The address was in our complex and I began to walk there. I was so happy when I saw someone on staff and told them I found the wallet and would they return it to the owner instead of me. They may not know who I am and they would recognize a staff member of the complex. I also let the staff member know where I found it and the only thing I did look at in the wallet was the license to get an address and then told them the address. They told me they would give it to the owner.
I feel at peace knowing that the wallet was given back to the owner. I do not have to worry that a student would be worrying about a lost wallet. That brought comfort to me. I guess when you are a mother you just have this compassion for kids. I would like to think that if my children were in a situation like this someone with Jesus in their heart would stumble upon their lost object and return it to them. That would be a great lesson on the love of Christ flowing through a person to bless them. Do not be afraid to bless others, especially when Holy Spirit is the prompter of the blessing. The best thing you can do in your life is to yield to His calling and beckoning. Holy Spirit will use those that are open to follow through with His prompting to bless others. One more concluding thought..maybe an angel was dispensed to watch over and guard that very wallet until a Christian stumbled upon it that would be prompted by Holy Spirit to pick it up and return it to the owner. Just a thought. God is good all the time and all the time He is good.
